Last Night at the Proms
Well, what an amazing evening!
A packed church of over 200 people enjoyed a varied and entertaining programme of music led by the Syston Town Band with soloists Susan Smith and Mark Hopkinson and organist Matthew Jones.
A ‘sing-a-long’ selection of Edwardian songs was very popular, especially as the words were provided! The ending of the second half was very traditional and of course involved singing Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory with a good deal of flag waving!
Felicity Austin and Biddy Saunders, aided by members of the Social Committee, organised this event.
Over £900 was raised for church funds.
Ladies Friendship Circle
On Monday 22nd September the ladies were entertained by four members of the Leicester Speaker’s Club.
They each told a convincing story and we had to guess whether the stories were true or false!
The winner was Doreen Payne who received a prize.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Sheila Borderick
Syston in Bloom
We were delighted to find that the church had been awarded a Highly Commended Certificate for the part of the grounds that we look after. This is the first time we have entered Syston in Bloom so it is a real pat on the back for Susan Gamble who has done most of the work on the garden, helped by Terry Farmer.
Sunday 5th October saw the 10.00am and eleven30 services combine to celebrate and give thanks for all the produce we enjoy and also to
consider those less fortunate.
During the service a wall comprising tins of food was created. These are to be donated to the Carpenters Arms in Loughborough where there is a food bank. A prayer tree was formed of prayers written by the congregation and the children made a banner for the front of the altar.
The church was wonderfully decorated, especially the windows with each one having a food theme such as tea and coffee, citrus fruits, chocolate, pulses and grapes.
On Saturday 11th October Joni Tointon was licensed by Bishop Christopher to be a Lay Pastoral Assistant. She joins Brian Middleton and Sue Essex in serving the parishes of the Fosse Team churches supporting the clergy and congregations.

At the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Lower Church Street, Syston.
You are warmly invited to join us for a Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving. This service is especially for those who have lost loved ones over the past year and for all who still keenly feel the loss of someone, however long it has been since they died.
During the service there will be an opportunity to remember your loved one(s) by name and to light a candle in thanksgiving for their life and for all that they meant to you.
After the service you are invited to stay for tea, coffee and cake.
Please feel free to invite your family and friends and anyone you know who may wish to come.
We look forward to welcoming you.
