New Barkby WI

Mrs B. Saunders welcomed members and visitors to New Barkby’s November meeting, which was the Women’s Institutes Annual meeting. Mrs Janet Kirk (now County Chairperson for Leicester and Rutland Federation) and Mrs Janice Law, both from Barkby and Beeby WI acted as tellers for the evening, at which Mrs B. Saunders was re-elected to serve as President for the forthcoming year. She thanked everyone for their support at the monthly meetings and at our social events, the most recent being a Tramp Supper in October. Mrs B. Gamble won the prize for looking so realistic as a tramp might appear. A bring and buy sale was held during the social time, plus ‘Shop-in-a-Box’ gifts which are available through the WI.
The raffle prize was won by Mrs A. Taylor, the tea hostesses were Mrs J. Cross and Mrs K. Fryman. During the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday 9th November, Mrs B. Saunders laid a poppy wreath at the Syston Memorial on behalf of New Barkby WI. Later in the same week, to celebrate the institutes eighty-ninth birthday, members enjoyed a pleasant evening and delicious food at Beedles Lake Golf Club, East Goscote. The next meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd December at the Syston Community Centre, 7.30pm. Simon Morgan ‘Exciting Cookery for Christmas’ with samples to taste and try. Visitors are welcome to attend.
