Skipper Decides It’s Time To Retire

Barkby CCAlan Beynon, who has captained Syston Town’s 2nd X1 for eight years in total has decided to stand down as skipper this season. During Alan’s time as captain the seconds have twice gained promotion and last season won the Challenge Cup by defeating Leicester Caribbean in the final. Under Alan’s guidance the team is now well established in Division 3 of the Everard’s Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League and is one of the top six second elevens in the county.
Alan joined the club in 1993 and has taken almost 600 wickets with his spin bowling. He says he will continue to turn out when required but that it is time for somebody else to take the helm. At the club’s AGM in January former 1st XI captain Scott Cooper was elected to take Alan’s place.
Other officers elected at the AGM were largely as last season; Charlie Taylor and Ivan Spibey will captain the 1st and Sunday XIs and John Fraser, Ivan and Peter Howard will carry on their duties as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively. John Punchard will continue to look after players’ welfare, Andy Checklin will be arranging social events and Brian Sutliff continues as Bar Manager.
I’ll publish a list of the managers of the junior sides in a later edition plus contact numbers for all club teams.
