Charnwood WIg’s

The March meeting began with President Sharon Russell giving us the news of forthcoming Women’s Institute events. The Centenary Annual General Meeting in London 4th June, also Centennial Fair 3rd to 6th September at Harrogate International Centre.Charnwood WIGs Image 1
Kerry Evans gave us a lovely spring flower arranging demonstration and tips on how to get the best from cut flowers in vases to displays using florist’s foam soaked in water. As well as wiring up flowers to prevent their heads drooping. A useful tip about roses to cut approximately 2” off the stems so they soak up water then dipping the ends in hot water to seal the stems, this should help stop the drooping heads.
After the demonstration, the flower displays made by Kerry were raffled off much to the members delight. The usual trade stalls were in evidence and tea and coffee was organised by Margaret, or a glass of wine from the bar for those who so wished.
On Tuesday 31st March 10 members from Charnwood WIg’s went to the Spring Group Meeting at Barkby Village Hall where a Best of British Taste and Try night was held and W.I. members belonging to the group all provided different dishes. From the WIg’s, our contribution was a delicious curry from Michelle with accompaniments, a finely chopped salad provided by Margaret and a Traditional Sherry trifle from Julie. I think it was enjoyed by all! Michelle provided recipes with the history of the dishes.

Dogs are always welcome!
