Declan’s Diary

I’m going to start this months diary with a huge thank you to all of our readers who kept Declan in their thoughts and prayers whilst he was in hospital, it’s truly touching to know how many people hold a place for Declan in their hearts. Ward 14 became our home for six weeks whilst Declan struggled to fight pneumonia. Unfortunately it was revealed during this time that part of his right lung has collapsed beyond repair and that his fight with duchenne’s is now not looking very good. To keep his lungs from hopefully collapsing further he now has to use his ventilator for three hours in the day as well as through the night. This news has come as a big shock to our family, as from the outside he looks so well, and even became the comedian/charmer with the nurses on the ward, but what’s going on inside is very different. Every trip to ‘Rays tray’ for his favourite sausage sandwich, walks around the lakes and watching films at the cinema will be even more precious than before. I hope Declan proves the hospital wrong but unfortunately duchennes has never spared anyone yet. Until that time my mission more than ever is to keep smiling and to keep that cheeky grin on my brave boys face.
Thank you once again for all your continued support.
