Queniborough WI

Well, it’s a quarter way through the year and after sun, rain and high winds surely spring must be in the air. Queniborough group were entertained by John Castleman, Chairman of Norman & Underwood, speaking about his Leicester company’s 180 year history, its diversification and especially, the worldwide restoration of old buildings. Tedious I hear you say, but not so, Johns’ lively talk told us of work on such places as Chatsworth, Hardwick, Salisbury Cathedral, Leicester Cathedral and many more that also included Bermuda Cathedral, work in Moscow and the building of the golden orb roof in Jerusalem. Last but not least the making of and supplying the lead coffin for Richard III’s reinternment. Questions were asked and an invite to the company works readily accepted. Homemade cakes, tea, coffee and a raffle followed. An enjoyable evening was had by all.
Our next meeting is on 6th May, no speaker this time as it’s our resolutions meeting, however a tipple and a few nibbles are always made available!
Come and see if you like us, meetings are at 7.45pm on the first Wednesday of each month, you will be warmly welcomed.
