Friend’s Coffee Morning
This event took place on Friday 20th March and was not eclipsed by the event going on in the heavens! (The eclipse!) With delicious cakes, children’s toys and books, a quality bric a brac and raffle there was plenty of choice of where to spend money and enjoy a coffee and biscuit.
The money raised was £135 and this will go towards the purchase of flowers for the forthcoming A Hundred Years of Weddings.
Members of the congregations of the Fosse Team gathered at Thurmaston on Sunday 22nd March.
There was a warm feeling of interest as we explored the theme of ‘We want to see the Face of Jesus’. Rev Lorna led the service and Fr David gave the sermon.
The collection raised will go to Dove Cottage.
After the service the tea and coffee was served with a large selection of cakes to enjoy!
Ladies Friendship Circle
On Monday 23rd March the speaker for our Lent talk was the Rev John Leonard. John told about events in his life which had made him the man he is today from his earliest days in Pembrokeshire and Southampton. When he came to Leicestershire he was Vicar at St.Barnabas and also chaplain at the Towers Hospital, then he established a new church on the Rushey Mead estate, until retiring to Syston. Recalling events in his life on reflection and with prayer he showed how we are all in the right place at the right time for God to do His work.
An interesting talk which made us think deeply about our own personal journey.
Unfortunately on 13th April a planned concert was cancelled so we had a ‘member’s evening’.
Our subject for the evening was embarrassing moments! These included fair ground rides, events at work and in the home.
A friendly evening, finishing with refreshments.
Holy Week and Easter
With services each evening throughout Holy Week we were able to take the journey through Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, through to Maundy Thursday when Jesus instituted the Last Supper, to Good Friday and Holy Saturday and on to the celebration of the resurrection on Easter Day. A packed church enjoyed the joyful atmosphere in the church and the enjoyment of an Easter egg each and refreshments in the hall afterwards.
The church was beautifully decorated with white and yellow flowers in every window as well as a vase full of lilies, see picture above, that people had bought to dedicate to the memory of someone special.
Good Friday Family Service
A large number of families came to share in the events of Good Friday through songs and actions. Each child had an egg box into which they put small representations of the Holy Week and Easter events, for example a piece of bread and a couple of raisins for the bread and wine of the communion service, a tiny stone and piece of white cloth for the tomb into which Jesus was put, a tiny cross made with cocktail sticks and marshmallows.
After the service they shared in the hot cross buns and drinks.
