A Hundred Years of Weddings

A historic Weddings and Flower Festival presented by the ladies of the St Peter and St Paul Church’s flower team and their friends. This beautiful event took place over the weekend of 16th and 17th May, Organised by the Friends of St Peter and St Paul’s Church and designed by Felicity Austin as a way of raising funds for a disabled toilet and small kitchen in the church. Entry to the festival was free but donations were appreciated – refreshments of homemade cakes and tea/coffee was also available.

The church looked beautiful, dressed with a range of wedding and bridesmaids dresses, as well as flower girl and page boy outfits with examples ranging across 100 years. The windows around the church were all dressed to represent wedding anniversaries and all look resplendent.
On the South Aisle they featured the Sapphire 65th Anniversary, Silk and fine linen 12th Anniversary by Susan Payne and Ruby 40th Anniversary by Judith Booton, shown in the gallery below.

Our picture above shows Felicity with the display of Vintage wedding dresses all kindly loaned by local ladies and ranging from 1912 to 1980’s. In the Lady chapel a beautiful winter wedding was displayed by Rene James and a bouquet by Gayle Shell.

The arrangements around the pulpit, altar steps and in front of the altar were all done by Pam Tyers and Anne Kemp. The Pedestal arrangements at the back of the altar were created by the church flower team members. A stunning Wedding Day display was at the North Aisle created by Janet

Well done to everyone involved for creating a stunning arrangement of dress, memorabilia, presents, photographs loaned by Friends of St Peter and St Paul’s Church and church members, the flower team and friends. A huge thank you for your items which helped to create the displays and to decorate the church.
The organisers would also like to thank local businesses: Jennings, The Village Bakery, The Secret Garden Florists, Cherilyn at Buds Florists, Syston Jewellers and other shops who displayed posters. But also for the groups that supported the event in a variety of ways.
