Friday 12th June 2.00pm at Tesco, Syston. PCSO Tom Lloyd 6392 and Diane from NHW will be in attendance who will have crime prevention gadgets for sale.
Neighbourhood Watch in Leicestershire is being restructured and various new committees have been formed at county level, district level and town/village level. They will be working in partnership with the Police, Charnwood Borough Council and various other partner agencies. They would like to expand present schemes and set up new ones to cover as many areas as possible.
NHW has many benefits including bringing communities together, educating members on how to protect themselves against crime, can prove to be a deterrent to criminals are just some of them. I am endeavouring to get as much of Syston covered as possible. The schemes also give me a way of contacting residents of Syston to inform them of crime in their area. There are currently schemes set up on the Hobby Horse estate, the Chestnuts estate (Greetham way area), George Toon Court, Simpson Close, Hungarton Drive and Goodes Lane. Should you live in these areas and wish to join the scheme please contact myself.
Schemes are also going to be raising funds by donations from members and holding events to enable the purchase of NHW signs, to be placed on lamp posts and crime prevention gadgets, which can be purchased at better rates when brought in bulk. Placing the signs to be clearly seen lets everyone know a scheme in the area exists, and that residents are on the lookout for any suspicious activity.
I am looking for NHW Co ordinators in the following areas of Syston:
Wolsey Road area
Roman Way estate
Should anyone wish to volunteer please contact myself, it doesn’t take too much time to run a scheme, once the initial setting up is done.
A Charnwood NPA webchat is being held on Thursday 18th June at 18:30 to 19:30 with myself hosting. This one will be themed on cycle safety and cycle crime prevention advice to coincide with National Bike Week. To join the chat visit www.leics.police.uk and click on webchat.
Crime Prevention Advice
The summer months are fast approaching which will hopefully mean nice sunny weather. Please do not leave windows open (ground and upper levels) when not at home. When you are at home, use window alarms on an open window or doorway. When enjoying the sunshine in the garden be mindful that you may not hear or see anyone approaching the front of the house so ensure this area is secure. Do not leave items out in the garden, such as toys, garden furniture, cycles etc, lock away securely in a shed or garage.
