New Barkby WI
Mrs S. Franklin, President, welcomed members to the New Barkby W.I.s April meeting. After business matters had been discussed, Mrs V. Cobb gave an account of attendance at the Leicestershire & Rutland Federation’s Annual Council Meeting, held at Leicester Grammar School. There were three speakers, Kate Naish from VISTA and the projects to be undertaken to combat eye problems; Nick Hamilton (son of the late Geoff Hamilton) gave an account of how he manages Barnsdale Gardens. The afternoon speaker was Lucy Worsley, Historian. An excellent day!
The planned speaker for the evening was not able to attend, so groups of members formed to exchange anecdotes of good and not so good experiences of holidays, unbelievable, some of them.
The competition for an item to accompany the talk was to have been anything to do with film or film stars, Mrs Franklin judged Miss E Loder’s sketch drawings, including one of Michael Jackson, to be the winner.
The raffle winner was Mrs c. Hickling and the tea hostesses were Mrs V. Cobb and Mrs A. Taylor.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd May, Syston Community Centre at 7.30pm with W.I. Resolutions. Visitors are always welcome to attend.
