Car Crash Halts Barkby Cricket Match

A cricket match had to be suspended when a car crashed into the railings surrounding Barkby cricket club. Players cleared glass and debris from the scene, so the match between Barkby’s 2nd X1 and Medbourne in the Leicester and Rutland cricket league could resume.
A nineteen-year-old was apprehended at the ground and held until police arrived at the scene.
The damage caused to the fence is likely to cost the owner of the cricket ground, John Pochin, around £6,000!
Dave Botting, Barkby’s second team captain said he was just thankful that nobody was hurt.
Hugh Asher chairman of Barkby parish council said “This is the third incident within the last three months involving cars speeding down the hill and colliding with the fencing, the parish council will continue to pester the highways department for a speed limit to be imposed”.
