The Syston Social club held an official opening of their newly renovated garden area on Saturday 24th June. Aptly referred to as a secret garden as it is totally enclosed and only accessed through the club. It has been cleared and had up-cycled furnishings salvaged from a local pub, that was undergoing refurbishment, added to existing picnic tables. A lot of the work has been done by a group of members, see picture above with steward, Annette.
Dave Walker had rescued a mural from the Greek Plough in East Goscote when it closed some 20+ years ago. It had resided in his garage and when the garden was being created he decided to donate it to the club. He has renovated and weatherproofed it and as our picture shows, it now has pride of place on one of the walls in the garden, with a notice explaining where it has come from.
New planters were created from old crates that were lined and painted before being filled with flowers, the artificial grass was donated to them by Loughborough University and the team would like to thank everyone who donated or helped to create this great addition to the club.
Finally, another good reason to celebrate is the fact that the club has been voted CAMRA’S Club of The Year 2017.
