This annual event was held on Saturday 2nd December and what a great day it turned out to be!
It was cold, but that didn’t stop people coming out and visiting the large range of stalls.
There was a steady flow of people throughout the day and by 3.30pm the whole area was full of excited children and families waiting to see Santa as he arrived on his sleigh.
The crowds were entertained by a wide range of performers, the Syston Band played Christmas Carols setting the theme for the afternoon followed by the St Peter and St Paul Church hand bells who gave a lovely traditional Christmas feel. Our soloists and bands didn’t disappoint with Isla and Helen plus Dis Band and the Left Hand Band all providing a wide range of Christmas and pop songs.
Due to a change in performers we had a slight delay and
luckily a local singer, Veronica, didn’t take much persuasion to take to the stage! She was then performing in the evening at one of the local pubs! So thank you Veronica for filling in! Next year we hope you will be able to have a slot of your own.
The Deputy Mayoress of Charnwood and her consort visited and presented the Best Dressed Shop window Competition winners with their prizes. The Chairman of Syston Town Council, Cllr P. Henry, presented her with a basket of flowers, see picture right.
Then we were entertained by the Children’s DMU Gospel Choir whose ages ranged from 7 to 17. What a delight!
The Left Hand Band helped get everyone dancing and counted down to the fireworks, which were amazing!
Santa’s Grotto was busy all day and lots of happy and excited children left with a selection box.
The Event Panel would like to thank Nest for sponsoring the grotto. Also thank you to everyone involved: stall holders, Billy Bates, Dave for the Stage, all the performers, the stilt walker and minion, the helpers and police for assisting and making this another amazing year! Here’s to another great event in December 2018!
