70 Aspiring Young Actors Fill Screen at Leicester Cinema for Premiere

Over 300 people, including 70 young aspiring actors from local Drama group, Urban Young Actors, attended the premiere of their first feature film ‘Whose Afraid of the Duke of Edinburgh’ on Saturday 27th January at Leicester’s Odeon cinema.
The actors aged between 8 and 21 who made the film during last year’s summer holidays, got to walk the red carpet and were made to feel a star for the night, celebrating with their friends, family and fellow actors as they witnessed their performances on the big screen.
As well as their first feature film, Urban Young Actors were also celebrating 10 years as one of Leicester’s leading drama groups.
Prior to the feature, a short ’10 year celebration’ documentary was screened featuring former members, current members and associates of Urban Young Actors sharing their memories.
This included messages from Joe Dempsie, star of HBO’S ‘Game of Thrones’ and local pop star, Mahaliawho, who is currently listed on BBC 1XTRA’S Hot for 2018 list.
Melissa Smith, Director of Urban Young Actors commented; “It was an amazing night, I am so proud of all our members who put in memorable performances. We were delighted to be able to shoot all of the feature film in Leicestershire and are thankful for all the support we received during the making of the film from Wreake Valley Academy. What a way to celebrate 10 years, it was certainly a night to remember!”
