Gain New Skills with Adult Learning Courses

What does Adult Learning mean to you – night school, evening classes, keep fit, watercolours…? Well it’s all of this, but a whole lot more too.
Leicestershire County Council’s adult learning ‘GoLearn’ courses are subsidised by a Government department, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), which means you get to learn at a discounted price. The ESFA gives us more money for certain courses, which means some courses are free, while we have to charge a fee for others.
The ESFA funding helps us to offer a package of learning opportunities and encourages a focus on:
• Supporting people back into work, particularly people who are long-term unemployed and those furthest away from the jobs market.
• Helping local employers grow their businesses by increasing local skills through apprenticeship programmes and courses that deliver key skills such as English, maths and computing.
• Enabling local residents to contribute and play an active role in their community by helping them to acquire skills
• Improving life chances by targeting areas of highest deprivation. These areas are characterised by poor physical and mental health, lower life expectancy, high levels of unemployment or low wages, poor accommodation and low levels of educational attainment
• Recognising that learning is not just about improving work chances, but also supporting active and healthy lifestyles by enabling people to remain active, sustain independence, retain skills and maintain a high quality of life.
We offer a whole range of free courses if you are seeking work and looking to gain basic skills, including planning your first steps towards employment, increasing confidence, help with job search, CV writing and interview skills. Our aim is to help you learn relevant key skills so that you are in the best position to gain work. We also offer workshops on how to access Universal Credit, as well as English, maths and basic cooking courses.
Learning doesn’t have to be formal and we also offer a range of courses that provide an opportunity to try something different, learn new skills, help your children at school and meet new people. These can be a great way to relax and improve your health and wellbeing. There are hundreds of part-time day, evening or weekend courses running in venues across Leicestershire, ranging from two-hour sessions to courses that run for 30 weeks, including art, cooking, languages, confidence building, courses for adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and computing, to name a few.
If you need help and support planning your next steps with learning and work, or finding the right course, then we can also offer a free one to one meeting with one of our Learning and Work Advisors.
Our courses are taught by experienced and qualified tutors who are keen to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with you, and there may be discounts and ‘no extra cost’ instalment plans available if you find it difficult to pay.
Whatever your New Year resolutions, why not embrace new learning opportunities for your future wellbeing and prosperity?
