Steamin Billy Provides over 200 Free Hot Meals for Local Older People

During the very cold months of January and February, local pub firm Steamin Billy, offered free hot meals to over 200 older people through local charity Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland.
The outings were enjoyed across six of the Steamin Billy pubs with a fantastic response with one of the diners commenting “it was lovely to talk about normal things and get out for a while and we must do this again”.
Tony Donovan, Executive Director of Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland said: “it is vitally important for older people, particularly during these colder, bleaker months of the year to have something to look forward to and Steamin Billy have been fantastic in providing over 200 hot meals for our local older people. We are extremely grateful for their generosity”.
The lunches were not only enjoyed by older people but also by their carers including local veterans and it was a great opportunity to come together and chat about their experiences in the Second World War including the D-Day landings!
Wendy Gamble from Steamin Billy Group said “we wanted to do something to help older people in our area so Billy Allingham contacted our local Age UK to see if we could help them. We have been thrilled with the response and we are pleased that so many older people enjoyed an afternoon out on us in a safe, warm and friendly environment with great food and great company”.
