Greetings from St Mary’s Barkby

In April we had a very successful Fashion Show in Barkby village hall and raised  over £220 for church funds  Also, in April we had a Baptism Celebration Party when some nine children, their parents, godparents and grandparents all met up in the church to play games such as pass the parcel and  find the hidden prizes in the church. We all then had a lovely tea and it was great to see the children tucking in. We hope to do the same next year but to widen our invitation base.
On Sunday 17th of June with the kind permission of Jayne and John Pochin their gardens will be open between 11.00am and 5.00pm – admission £3. There will be ploughman’s lunches available together with cakes drinks and ice-creams. Why not treat your Dad for Fathers’ Day!
Looking ahead, our Christmas event will be the 23rd/24th November when there will be lots more entertainment for the children while they are waiting to see Santa. It gets better and better each year.
This year all our fund-raising is to pay for the repairs and work that needs to be done in the churchtower and the spire.
Perhaps you have wondered what our SMART service is all about every other Sunday at 10.00am. These initials stand for ‘St. Mary’s Always Rejoicing Together’ and is an all age get-together (from babies to 90’s) which is led by Vicky who used to take the Sundayschool childrens’ service. It is an informal service with refreshments afterwards and all are welcome. There is, of course, our Evening Prayer and Communion services at 6.00pm to which all again are very welcome. As you probably know, we have been without a vicar/team rector for almost two years, the Bishop has recently announced that the Reverend Canon Lee Francis Deqhani is to join us, possibly sometime in August and we all look forward to meeting him.
