New Barkby WI

Mrs K. Fryman, President, welcomed members and visitors to the May meeting. After Business matters were attended to, Mrs S. Franklin and Mrs A. Montague started the NFWI Resolution for the annual general meeting to be held in Cardiff in June. Representing out Institute will be Mrs Wendy Taylor, President of Queniborough WI. The resolution ‘That the NFWI urges all WI members to recognise the importance of parity between mental health and physical health and to lobby government for better support for mental health’.
One in four people will experience mental health problems and many will have to tolerate stigmas, children may also be affected.
After discussion, the majority of the members voted in favour of the resolution and no discretionary vote will be allowed by the delegate.
Mrs K. Fryman thanked everyone for their participation in this matter.
Afterwards there was social time, so that members could look at a photo album of members, taken at recent events, and to catch up on notices of future events for then county federation.
The competition winner for a multi-coloured item was Mrs V. Cobb with a colourful book cover. The raffle prize winner was Mrs J. Bishop who received two WI books and a box of chocolates. The tea hostesses were Mrs J. Goulding and Mrs B. Lancaster.
The next meeting with be on Wednesday 6th June when Mr Alan Parker will speak on ‘The Kegworth Air Crash’. The meetings are held at the Syston Community Centre, 7.30pm . Visitors are always welcome to attend.
