Rotary Club Young Musician Competition 2018

Soar Valley Music Centre Brass Ensemble with Best Ensemble trophy

Syston Rotary Club recently put forward three entries into the Rotary Club Young Musician Competition 2018.
The semi-final of the competition was held at Claremont Methodist Church on Saturday 3rd March, when Eva, their junior category flute player, performed very well but did not gain a place in the next round. However, their intermediate age group wind ensemble and senior brass ensemble made it through to the District final.
The final, set for 18th March, was cancelled due to bad weather. A final was quickly rearranged in two parts – the first for the soloists, whose winners needed to be chosen in time for the Regional Final in Doncaster. The District Final was then completed on 29th April at Robert Smyth Academy in Market Harborough, when the two Ensembles supported by Syston Rotary Club both performed well and won their respective classes.
We are pleased to report that Soar Valley Music Centre Brass Ensemble was also awarded the overall Ensemble trophy. Well done to all entrants and congratulations to SVMC Brass Ensemble.
The Rotary Club’s Young Musician competition supports and encourages young musicians and singers to share and develop their talents and is just one of a number of youth competitions organised by the Rotary Club (others include cooking, public speaking, writing and photography).
Syston Rotary Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Syston Rugby Club.
