Riverside Utd Kestrels Under 11’s Do the Double

Riverside United Kestrels under 11’s stepped up to the challenge of playing nine-a-side football in great style this season.Unbeaten throughout last season, the Kestrels started off slowly this term losing their first two games. However, an upturn in form saw them reach the County cup semi-final where they were unlucky to be beaten.This wasn’t the end for the Kestrels though, they wanted to prove a point! More hard work in training and matches saw a deserved league title, with the league cup to follow, seeing the Kestrels finish the season as double winners.Those that have managed to see this team play concur that this Riverside Kestrels team are a pleasure to watch.

League Cup Final
After winning their cup group, Riverside Kestrels also reached the league cup final at Holmes Park against unbeaten Thurlaston Magpies on 20th May.
The early stages of the game were understandably tight, but chances did eventually arrive at both ends, forcing both keepers into decent saves. Riverside began to take control and deservedly broke the deadlock towards the end of the first half with Ben Linney finishing comfortably after rounding the keeper. The halftime whistle was imminent when Thurlaston nearly hit back, but a point blank stop from Connor Read-Bray ensured that Riverside took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Riverside continued to dominate as the second half got underway and a 20-yard free kick by Spencer Braker provided the Kestrels with a two-goal cushion. Thurlaston fought hard and pulled one back during the last 10 minutes leading to frenetic finale which saw Riverside produce some fantastic last ditch tackles and a great late save from keeper Felix Kennedy, enabling Riverside to hold on and deservedly win their second trophy of the season 2-1……a brilliant team effort!
