Barkby & Beeby W.I.

In place of the July meeting, many of our members went to Rothley Court for a meal to celebrate our WI’s 70th birthday.
In August, it was the Federation Centenary celebration which was held at Beaumanor Hall again and was attended by many of our WI members. Both of these events went very well and were enjoyed by those who attended. We were asked by one of our members if we would be able to knit or crochet bags for the maternity unit at Leicester hospitals. The bag is of a certain size so patterns were given out to those interested, if anyone would like to make a bag, a pattern can obtained through Barkby & Beeby WI.
At our meeting in August we were entertained by the Bold Ukulele group, who played and sang well known songs that we were encouraged to sing along to. In between the songs we were given an insight into the various ukuleles, their sizes and difference in sound, we were also given a little bit of history about the songs they were performing.
After a break for tea and cakes the group handed out ukuleles to those  that wanted to have a go at playing and then taught a few chords to play along with a couple of easy songs.  This was a very noisy session but also good fun. They then treated us to another song and started us off in singing Jerusalem.
A very entertaining evening!
