New Interim Rector
Monday 20th August saw a special service and welcome for Rev’d Canon Lee Francis-Dehqani as Interim Rector and also the commissioning of Wendy Hardy as pioneer minister for the eleven30 service.
The church was full with members of the Fosse Team, representatives from the Methodist, Roman Catholic and Baptist churches, the Deputy Mayor of Charnwood, Brenda Seaton, representatives from the Town Council led by the Chairman Cllr Paul Henry as well as more than forty parishioners from Rev’d Lee’s previous parish in Oakham.
The Bishop of Leicester, Martyn Snow, led the service with the Area Dean Rob Gladstone.
Following the service, refreshments were served in the church hall.
Historic Churches Trust
The annual Ride and Stride event took place on Saturday 8th September. Theresa Morgan and her husband Dave undertook the ride and were very lucky with the weather which had been forecast as rain, but remained dry while they visited thirteen churches in the locality.
Over £120 has been raised for the charity, half of which will return to Syston Parish Church.
St. Peter and St. Paul’s Ladies Friendship Circle
The first meeting since the Summer was on Monday 11th September. Cynthia welcomed everyone and after a short prayer we were all given a very interesting programme which takes us up to the end of 2018. There was also a table of Bric-a-Brac which ladies had brought along to raise funds for our chosen charity, The Air Ambulance.
We were reminded of the forthcoming Coffee morning which will be on Thursday 11th October, in the church centre, beginning at 10.30am. We would welcome any visitors who wish to support this very worthwhile charity.
As it was the end of the holiday season Cynthia compiled a questionnaire for us to talk of our memories of ‘past holidays’ this proved quite lively as we remembered our childhood holidays and also holidays we had taken with our children. It was noticeable that the holidays we recalled were mostly taken in this country – very few were holidays taken abroad.
The Christmas event this year will be on Saturday 8th December when there will be an Old Fashioned Fair in the church hall! Make a note in your diaries!
Churches Together in Syston Collection for Christian Aid
The churches combined to take a ‘bucket collection’ in the entrance of the Tesco store in Syston on Saturday 18th August. The amount raised was £210. Many thanks to all the members of the public who donated.
