Barkby and Beeby W.I.

In September we were treated to a virtual tour around the Little Theatre by Mike Bull.
Mike gave us a potted history of the theatre from when it opened in Dover St Baptist Church in 1930 to the fire, caused by a homeless soldier who hid there to keep warm for the night and fell asleep with a cigarette in his hand. The rebuilding took over three years and cost of £30,000.
The slides showed the theatre and the back stage areas as it was in the past and how it looks now. There are open evenings where you can go and find out about the theatre and how you can get involved by volunteering in several different areas. They also hire out props and costumes to other amateur dramatic societies and individuals, so if you fancy dressing up as a Dame or maybe a Victorian lady, that is the place to go.
Mike was entertaining with his anecdotes, and as he has acted there for many years, he had quite a few! With his booming voice it was easy to see how he would come across on stage.
At our next meeting our speaker is Douglas Wright with ‘My Parade of Hits’. If you would like to join us please come along, you will be most welcome.
We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in Barkby Village Hall.
