New Barkby WI

President, Mrs K. Fryman, welcomed members to the institute’s October meeting.
After business matters had been dealt with and Jerusalem sung, it was a very crafty session as Carolyn Boulder, speaker for the evening, demonstrated how to make a patchwork Christmas tree. At a nominal cost for materials, each member had a pack of ten circles, already tacked. There were two of every size and the tacking had to be drawn together to make flat discs. When these had been completed they were threaded onto a skewer which fitted into a small jar. This formed the base and then, hey presto! Little sticky-backed stars to fit on the top. Now, everyone who created one was pleased with their efforts and makes one think of the Christmas season.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs K. Fryman. The competition for a patchwork item was won by Mrs V. Cobb with a skirt and waistcoat, made by a speaker from some time ago.
The raffle prize was won by Mrs P. Smith and the tea hostesses were Mrs E. Older and Mrs P. Vernon-Wilson.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 7th November 2018. Syston Community Centre at 7.30pm. It will be the annual meeting for New Barkby W.I. All visitors are welcome to attend.
