Well Christmas is over for another year, I hope you all had a peaceful and happy day and now we have a new year to look forward to.
At our last meeting, in December 2018, we were given an entertaining talk on ‘How to survive Christmas’. If you have yet to hear Penny Hodgeson’s take on taking the stress out of Christmas then I can highly recommend her. She started her talk with a little of the history into some of our customs and how they originated and followed this up with a few words of wisdom and common sense. Like why do we feel we have to buy so much food? why do we get frazzled over everything being perfect on “the day”? The main thing I took away from her talk was that the adverts lie and it really isn’t necessary to have everything perfect as long as you spend Christmas with the people you care about. While Penny was talking she invited us to fill our plates with some of the delicious food from the faith supper provided by the members, this made the evening feel very informal and relaxed. We then listened to and joined in with the hand bell ringers playing Christmas carols and a visit from Santa and his reindeer rounded off a very pleasant evening.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year.
