Ladies Friendship Circle
Our meeting on 28th January took the form of ‘Call My Bluff’, based on the popular radio programme. Three members of the group had been given a word which they either supplied the correct meaning of or supplied their own interpretation of the meaning. The true and untrue meanings were entertaining and at at times unbelievable but nevertheless true. We were divided into teams and then scored points to decide the winners.
The evening was at times quite noisy but very entertaining. The winning team were rewarded for their efforts and given a bar of chocolate each. There was a raffle which consisted of three prizes – the first prize chosen was a beautifully arranged box of fresh fruit.
The speaker at our meeting on February 11th was Mike Major; his subject the R.N.L.I. Mike gave details of past rescues by the lifeboat service and quoted how many lives had been saved but sadly also how many people had lost their lives during storms and shipwrecks. The talk was illustrated by pictures and diagrams of where the incidents took place – many in the North Sea around the Whitby area. Having learned of the early days of the service Mike offered to come again and give a talk on the ‘Life Boat service in the present day’.
Forthcoming subjects for Ladies Friendship Circle.
Monday 11th March ‘Let Us Laugh Together’ Speaker Dianne Wright and Monday 25th March ‘Fine Cell Work’ Speaker Chris Watkins.
Monday 8th April Ruth Coward. Her talk ‘Ark at our Peter’ is a continuation of a previous talk.
Visitors are welcome at any of our meetings which are held in the church hall and begin at 7.30 p.m.
