Thrussington Fun Run

The weather was kinder to us this year at the 11th Fun Run in Thrussington held on Saturday 9th March. 271 runners had entered and they were in for a treat! The course was in great shape; marked out brightly in red and white tape kindly donated by Buildbase of Syston – haybales and streams providing a challenging and exciting race for ages from two years to twilight years, those new to running and seasoned runners too.
Our sponsors this year: HCC Tokio Marine Insurance, Charles Bentley & Son, Raylec Electrical Installations Limited, Bentons Estate Agents and Manor Farm and the Rudkin Family gave generously to help with the costs of running the event. This meant that all the money raised, around £2000 will be split equally between our two charities; Thrussington PTFA and Jac Bach Children’s charity (a charity helping children with life changing illnesses). But the main reason for the event remains the same – the opportunity for so many people, particularly children to take on the challenge and have fun.
The crowd and marshals cheered on our worthy competitors and the atmosphere was just amazing! A medal and sweets awaited those who had completed the challenge and didn’t they deserve it – a bit tired and muddy, but a great sense of achievement! Well done! Up at the village hall, pasties, sausage rolls (kindly donated by Ginsters), cake and cups of tea were a welcome sight and were consumed enthusiastically while trophies were handed to our deserving winners!
Making sure that everyone enjoys the day requires a huge team of people to get things ready and to make sure things run smoothly. The organisers said “We are very lucky to have such a great sense of community in Thrussington and offers of help to marshal, set up, serve teas came rolling in from the village and also further afield; people keen to be involved in what has become over the years ‘a date to be put in the diary’!”
