News from Syston Band

A Sad Loss
It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Chris Moore. Before ill health forced his retirement from playing Chris was Syston Band’s longest serving Principal Cornet. As Principal he was calm and supportive, unstinting as an officer of the committee, generous and encouraging as a player and a considerate friend. A dedicated Syston bandsman, always kind and quietly dignified, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Chris first picked up the cornet at the tender age of seven. Like lots of musicians he first began in school, where instruments and tuition were provided free of charge. It was the beginning of a life-long passion. When he stepped down from active playing Chris was keen to help other young players have the opportunities he had. With this in mind there will be the Chris Moore Foundation Fund, where Syston Band will be offering assistance to young players interested in learning to play a brass instrument. In establishing this scholarship Chris was keen to be able to offer budding musicians the same opportunities that he had.
