Calling all New Residents of Syston

Are you fairly new to Syston? Are you familiar with all the opportunities that Syston offers? It’s a town with a long and interesting history, part of that is the history of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, which dates back at least eight hundred years. The church is situated between Lower Church Street and Upper Church Street, just off High Street. It’s a magnificent building in the oldest part of Syston, which is the area around The Green. There are too many interesting things about the church to mention in this article, but they range from a seven hundred year old font to a magnificent interior ‘Angel roof’ which was restored in the 1960’s. There’s even a small carved memorial to the Titanic.
If you are interested in the building, look out for posters and information about any special events we might be running so that you can have a look around. The first of these (coming up soon) is a concert called ‘Music for a Summer’s Evening’, given by the Ratcliffe Chorale on Saturday 29th June at 7.30pm. Entrance is £7 to include a glass of wine or other drink, and tickets are available on the door.
You are always welcome at any of our services and events. Our special (informal) service for families is called ‘Eleven Three O’ and is held on the first and third Sunday of each month at 11.30am. Other regular services are at 8.00am and 10.00am on Sundays. There’s also a short quiet midweek communion service at 9.30am on Wednesdays. Special services are held at Harvest time, Easter, Mothering Sunday and of course at Christmas, with the church beautifully decorated. Our traditional Christmas Eve Christingle Service and our Carol Service are always packed, and many local people feel that this is an essential part of their Christmas celebrations. Do come and visit us some time, you’ll be very welcome.
