Syston Scout Group News

Syston Scout Group’s Unsung Heroes
Every adult who gives their time to Scouting supports the development of young people and without them Scouting and the adventures it offers simply would not happen.
On Friday 26th April, 3 members from 10th Leicester (Syston) Scout Group were invited to Leicestershire Scouts St Georges Day Awards at Humphrey Perkins High School in Barrow.
This evening was all about recognising adults and young leaders for their hard work that they do to support Everyday Adventure & Skills for Life supporting Scouting in Leicestershire. Many award nominees gathered for the event. The awards were presented by the County team as well as the Police Chief Constable of Leicestershire, Simon Cole.
Chris, Callum and Heather, pictured right, all received awards.
Chris received a Medal of Merit Award for going above and beyond on his role. This includes the work he did at ACC Explorers, Syston Scout & Guide Band incorporating the Sticks & Tones annual performance and supporting Wreake Valley Scout Network Unit before taking on the role of Group Scout Leader along with the multitude of fundraising events and other section activities that he has thrown himself into over a prolonged amount of time. The award that Chris has received is not presented for anything less than 12 years of service or 10 years in exceptional circumstances.
Callum received a St Georges Day Award for being an active member within the group for many years and has now taken on the role of being a youth representative as part of the Group Executive Committee. Callum has also taken on tasks himself and helped bring the Group up to date with modern Scouting and processes. Callum is always willing to help anyone with an issue or questions and is a vital part of the group.
Heather also received a St Georges Day Award. Heather is a Young Leader at Syston Cubs and since taking on the role, she has become a vital member of the Cubs leadership team. Heather has also taken up the role of Quartermaster for Syston Scout & Guide Band which involves a great deal of responsibility to maintain and organise kit for all the band.
Syston Scout Group would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Chris, Callum and Heather plus all the other leaders and helpers for their hard work and commitment to the group.
