Fosse Way Bowling Club

The club was founded in 1935 by a Mr and Mrs Herbert. The first clubhouse was a small wooden building with no facilities as we have today.
The club grew and, after the war, membership was very good, but those were the days before ladies played bowls. During the last 84 years, Fosseway Bowls Club has had many members playing for Leicestershire, including Outdoor and World Champion Tony Allcock M.B.E. The 2018/19 Winter has seen Fosseway move into the 21st Century, having major construction work inside and outside. The work was done by members and professional contractors. The photos show the finished work. We have had many comments from visiting teams who are enjoying the new changing chalets and clubhouse, saying what a difference a year makes!
The new clubhouse was officially opened on 29th June and Club President Ken Sewell welcomed members, guests and sponsors. This was followed by a BBQ and live entertainment. We have come a long way since 1935!
Fosseway Bowling Club’s tour this year is to the Isle of Wight in August. They will play local clubs on the island over 5 days. More news and photos will be in next month’s Syston Town News.
