Are you someone who enjoys a coffee or tea with a friendly chat, then the Hub café is the place for you. Situated on the corner of High Street and Upper Church Street, this bright, fresh and friendly community café provides freshly produced and ethically sourced food and drinks at affordable prices, and is proud to hold a 5 star hygiene rating given by the local authority.
Established by the Methodist Church, and guided by church committee, the Hub is run by Supervisor Jo and a team of dedicated volunteers who endeavour to provide a welcoming and vibrant community space for all.
It currently opens Monday to Friday at 9.15am, with lunches including Jacket Potatoes, Paninis and Freshly-made Soup available between 11.30am and 1.30pm. The café continues to open in the afternoons until 4.00pm on Mondays and Thursdays for craft groups and the general public, but they are looking to extend this throughout the week and are happy to hear from any local groups who might be interested in utilising the space.
During July, they are hosting a number of FREE courses led by GoLearn Adult Education, including help with I.T and saving on Food Waste, so keep an eye on their Facebook page for more details.
They also operate the food bank on Thursday afternoons, where people who have the official voucher can exchange it for basic necessities thanks to The Trussell Trust.
In order to build on this fabulous service they are looking for more volunteers to lend a few hours in the cafe. If you can help, and want to be part of this exciting community project then please call in and speak to Jo who will guide you through the volunteer process and, if appropriate, help you to achieve food hygiene qualifications. No experience necessary! Current volunteer Liz told the Syston Town News that, having moved to Syston, she felt immediately comfortable as a customer in the Hub, and now fully enjoys her role as a trained Barista.
Plans for the Hub future include a Take-Away service and Friday Breakfasts so follow them on their Facebook page – Syston Hub Café and Twitter feed @HubSyston to keep up to date with all the latest developments.
Jo and the team look forward to welcoming you!
