Farewell to Miss Buchan

After 17 years as Head Teacher of our school, Miss Buchan will be leaving us this summer.
Miss Buchan has worked tirelessly over the years to ensure that all children do as well as they can and are well prepared and ready to move on to senior school by the time they leave our primary school.
Miss Buchan has successfully led the team and has ensured that whatever challenges the school has faced, it has gone from strength to strength over the years. Some years ago, school managed to improve its OFSTED status from “Satisfactory” to “Good” and successfully went on to retain this rating despite much harder goalposts to achieve. Miss Buchan has also worked to ensure the school achieved an “Outstanding” award with the church inspection, known as a “SIAMS” inspection. The progress and attainment of children has improved over the years, and Miss Buchan has worked to ensure that all children no matter what their ability is, do the very best they can. She has seen the school go through it’s transition from a state school into an Academy, being a founder school in the multi academy “Diocese of Leicester Academy Trust”.
Miss Buchan has always felt strongly that children should get a broad education and leave school well prepared for the future, having had the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of experiences beyond the classroom. She has particularly ensured that all children have the opportunity whilst at school to visit and stay on a working farm, have a go at outdoor pursuits and adventures they may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in, visit the cinema, as well as providing opportunities for children to take part in many sporting, music, drama and other clubs and activities. Miss Buchan has previously particularly enjoyed accompanying children on the Wick Court working farm trips, singing with the choir at the Young Voices concert in Birmingham, and watching children perform in different plays, sports and musical productions at school. We know that Miss Buchan will really miss watching children perform and take part in all of these activities.
Miss Buchan has also worked hard to create strong links between school and the local church and wider community, and strong values within school, associated with being a church school.
Miss Buchan has for many years spent her time off travelling extensively around the world learning about and experiencing many different cultures. She has now decided to extend this passion, by leaving school in order to pursue her dream of living and working within different communities overseas, helping to make a difference to people’s lives. Miss Buchan has various projects already organised around the world and we wish her all the very best with this amazing opportunity. All of the children, staff and governors will be very sad to see Miss Buchan leave and wish her all the best for her travels. We hope that between projects, if and when she is back at home, she will find time to pop in and let us know about her experiences.

A farewell afternoon picnic was held on Thursday 4th July, it was very well attended in beautiful sunny weather. Our picture above was taken at the event and shows Miss Buchan with her staff. The event started with former pupil and a member of the Cathedral Choir, Luka, played three violin pieces. This was followed by songs from the children and staff.
The Stn also wishes Miss Buchan all the very best on her travels too.
