Syston Local History Group Exhibition

Held on Saturday 14th September this annual event saw a lot of interest from residents who enjoyed walking round the range of interesting displays of Syston in years go by.
A new edition this year was a board including a painting done from Hope House on Chapel Street Circa 1870’s looking towards the Parish Church showing a thatched cottage which was at that time The Bulls Head public house which was replaced in the 1880s by the present brick building. Now the Syston and District Social Club.
The painting had been given to the history group by Miss Jane Dear in February of this year 2019. After her mother had been left it by Miss Phyllis Daniels. It was Miss Daniel’s mother who had painted the view from Hope house in Chapel street.
The other pictures show the view in 1958 (top) and a postcard below from c1900.
