On Saturday 28th September, a cold, wet & generally dismal day, L R Harris & Son held its Macmillan Coffee morning.
Due to the amount of items on offer it is held outside under various gazebos and tents with seating available.
They have held a coffee morning for the last few years but, in a change to normal, after two sudden bereavements had decided to split any donations received between the other charities chosen by the families.
These charities were Derby, Leicester & Rutland Air Ambulance; The Matt Hampson Foundation for Richard Nicholls and Mind & Brain Tumour Research for Paul Marshall. Both of these were young men who were taken far too soon earlier this year.
L R Harris & Son, of Old Junction Boatyard in Syston had taken in donations of good quality pre owned clothing and bric a brac, some was sold over social media prior to the day, to be sold alongside the cakes and savouries on the day.
The coffee morning was so well supported, despite the poor weather, that they have been able to make donations of £181.00 to each charity plus a £200.00 donation to Macmillan as it was all done on their coffee morning and was ‘hijacked’ for the other charities.
With online donations made directly to some of the charities the donations have totalled an amazing £1000.00!!
Money is already coming in for next years collection from people who didn’t make it this year.
The owners of the business are all completely overwhelmed by everyone’s support and generosity,
and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came or donated. They would also like to say “same time next year”!
