Further Recognition For Volunteer Centre

At the Awards Dinner held in Winstanley House on 10th October, Syston and District Volunteer Centre were declared Runners-up in the Rural Achievements category.
Chairman, Paul Lomas said: “This impressive award, coming in the same year as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, is further proof not only of the value of the range of services that we provide to the disabled and isolated members of Syston and surrounding communities but also – and especially – of the high standards set and maintained by our panel of volunteer drivers with the support of a small, dedicated staff.
My Board colleagues and I are proud of our achievements to date but, at the same time, are acutely conscious that we are not even close to meeting the total – and increasing – demand for support coming from within our local communities.
A shortage of volunteer drivers, for both the Social Car and minibus services, is the major stumbling block. We would like to urge anyone who has even a couple of hours a week on an occasional basis (it is not necessary to commit to a regular schedule) to contact us either by telephone on 0116 260 7888 or email: [email protected], to discuss ways in which they might be able to help to do more.”
