Imperial Roofing Supplies Ltd

When the email came through saying someone had nominated us for the Nachural Signature Awards in Birmingham – we were shocked as it was completely unexpected. We were then told that we made it through and we were FINALISTS. Not just in one category but in TWO – Best Business Person and Small Business of the year. This was unbelievable. We never saw ourselves as award winning.  For us, it has always been about simply coming in, doing a great job for our customers and supporting the local community for example through:
• Sponsorship of the Leicestershire Pool Team (Thurmaston 147 A+B) in National tournaments and the Monday night Pool Premier League in Leicester – Club 147 and also local grassroots football teams.
• Supporting the Great Central Railway Bonfire Night through donating pallets for the bonfire.
• Supporting Mental Health Charities

Knowing we are adding value to the local community has always been enough for us since we formed in 1999 in Syston, supplying to Leicester, Melton Mowbray, Loughborough and Lincolnshire. We simply pride ourselves on being an independent roofing merchant, with no affiliation with a contractor or supplier. This unique position has allowed us to give impartial advice, based on years of experience in the building industry. Our high level of service sets us apart from the rest and over the years we have built up a reputation as a hub of knowledge for all things related to roofing supplies.
In May 2016 a change of the guard happened, having worked for the company since 2003 Graham became managing director. At the time of taking over, the business was not in the best position. Struggling for stock, processes were lacking, and sales were not as they should have been. There was a lot to do to put foundations into place to enable sustainable growth. We were at ground zero on our knees really but with hard work, determination and a desire to serve our customers with excellence, we put in extensive hours to get things right. Now it should be noted, that Pat my fellow director (Director since 1999) also was (and still is) a full time fireman in Leicestershire he had to get involved and help resurrect the company and therefore put in extra hours.
The pressure we were under was immense and intense.
Hard work and dedication does pay off.
In 2018 moving forward Joe Carnan (shown on theright in the picture) was promoted to shop manager and we employed Jason Mazzei (shown on the left in the picture) as his assistant for deliveries and yard development.
On the night of the Awards, held at the ICC in Birmingham, we were amongst some of the biggest movers and shakers in the Midlands – a crowd of c650. No way did we expect to win. We just thought it would a great night out. The Nachural team hosting the event under Ninder Johal DL created an incredible experience from reception, to food, to speeches, to entertainment. It was perfect. Then the awards started and incredible businesses were called onto the stage to receive their Award.
And then we heard our name!
We couldn’t believe it. We walked across the room and up onto the stage, stunned. What a moment. Never in our dreams did we think this would happen to us.
We WON Small Business of the year award 2020 in recognition of our business turnaround over the last four years and the significant business growth we have achieved in the last two years.
What an amazing way to celebrate desire, belief and strength. We are incredibly grateful to all our customers, suppliers, friends and family who have helped us along our journey. This couldn’t have happened without you.
Thank you very much.
