The Cricket Season Is Almost Here

After a dreadfully wet winter and the ground being flooded eight times Syston Town C.C. is hoping for a fine spell of weather so that the 2020 cricket season can get underway on time. All-rounder Matt Russo from Perth, Western Australia is spending the season with the club and we hope he will enjoy the experience and have a great time with us. The 1st XI, skippered by Mo Pardesi, starts on April 18th with a home match against Newtown Linford followed by a trip to play Cropston. Kegworth are the next visitors then the team go on their travels again to play local rivals Sileby Town. Syston will host one of the group stages of the Premiership T20 competition on May 3rd when Loughborough Town and Barrow Town are the visitors. The winner will progress to finals day to be held later in the season. The draw for the County Cup competition has yet to be made but will be posted on the club’s website when it is available. Syston 2nd XI comfortably retained their Division 3 status last season and due to the reorganisation of the lower leagues they will feature in Division 3 East in 2020. Lutterworth, Barkby and Langtons are the only other second teams in the division so it should be another very competitive season ahead for Adam Mortimer and his lads. They start off on April 18th with a visit to Bharat Sports followed by a home match against Maher Stars. A trip to play Countesthorpe follows then Leicester Banks are the visitors. The Sunday XI, captained by Ivan Spibey, will once again be featuring in Division 2 of the Grantham and Melton Cricket Association. They start on May 3rd with a trip to play Stamford followed by a home match against Croxton Kerrial before they are away again at Buckminster & Barrowby. The club will be fielding teams at Kwik cricket, Under 13 and Under 15 age groups and in place of an Under 17 side, the club has again entered a team in Division 3 of the Burrough & District Evening League. As last season it will be a mixture of youth and experience and all fixtures, when they are available, will be posted on the club’s website www.systontowncricketclub.co.uk. New members both senior and junior are always welcome at any stage of the season and general information or details about practice nets and coaching can be found on the website or from Ivan Spibey on 0771 113 9711 or Scott Cooper on 0792 950 20???Roger Pole
