    Events at Gorse Hill farmEvents at Gorse Hill farm

    1.00pm until 3.00pm is another 'Meet the Small animals' session which allows the little ones to get up close and personal with even smaller ones. There are rabbits and guinea pigs, not to mention the other springtime babies. The lamb count is now 30! It costs £2 per person and they get a free mini soft toy as a memento of the animal they met.

    Coast to Coast Walk StartCoast to Coast Walk Start

    Birstall furniture shop driver Adam Collin and two of his biking buddies, Andy Grewcock and Andy Gulley are attempting to complete the famous Wainwrights long distance Coast to Coast walk starting on 5th June at St Bees and ending in Robin Hoods Bay 10 days later. This is a 194 mile walk and is usually completed in 14 days! Money Raised from this walk will enable Age Concern to provide essential services.Please either pop directly into the shop to make a donation or send all sponsorship money to Age Concern Leicester Shire and Rutland, Lansdowne House, 113 Princess Road East, Leicester LE1 7LA by 15th August 2010.     Sunday 13th June is open farm Sunday. It allows visitors to see what farm life is all about with sheep shearing and other farm activities.     The next session is at Syston Catholic Church Tuesday 15th June. This session has appointments available throughout the day until 8:00pm – ideal for those who would like to drop in after work! To become a donor you need to be aged 17 - 65, weigh more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and be in general good health. There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years.     More than 600 serious and not-so-serious individuals from Leicestershire and the surrounding counties are again expected to take part in the Rothley and Soar Valley Lions Club’s 25th Annual 10 Kilometre Road Race around Rothley village which will take place on Tuesday, 15th June starting at 7.15pm. There are valuable team and individual prizes to be won in a range of categories - including juniors and veterans - as well as by the overall male and female winners and runners-up. Early entry will save money and time. Entry forms are available now from the Leicester Mercury News shop or The Chip Shop, Cross Green, Rothley, from the Running Fox, Ashby Road, Loughborough, or, by email, from event co-ordinator, Colin Favell (colinfavell@live.com). Everyone is urged to come along on the night to take part or to cheer on the runners.

    Cycle And Steam Through CharnwCycle And Steam Through Charnw

    11.00am to 3.30pm Borough Council’s Active Together team is organising a bike ride with a difference in the Borough this summer. Cyclists of all ages and abilities are invited to meet at Quorn Station to board a steam train with their bikes. They will then disembark at Rothley and cycle to Swithland for a picnic lunch. After lunch, the ride continues through Charnwood Forest arriving back at Quorn around 3.30pm. Anyone wishing to take part must get a ticket in advance from the Charnwood Borough Council, call: 01509 634 673.
