SARIC Update

It seems a while since I updated you on SARIC (Syston Arts and Recreation in the Community) and where we currently are. It’s been a quiet year compared to last but we’ve still been busy fundraising and facing the challenges of running an Old Chapel as a community facility. I’m pleased to report that the building is used every evening during the week by Rainbows, Brownies and Tai Boxing as well as the Drama groups and regularly on Friday afternoons for Singing for Fun. We also have the Film Club on the last Wednesday afternoon each month. We were fortunate earlier in the year to receive a donation towards our window replacement from the Edith Murphy Foundation but we still have quite a way to go as the windows are so large and specialist and we are in a conservation area. We have replaced the front door and put up a notice board on the side of the building so when you are passing please take a look at forthcoming events. Our main fundraising events this year have been the Murder Mysteries. We have one for our own funds in early February and then we ‘tour’. So if you’re interested in holding your own event and want to know more please get in touch. We’re always interested in welcoming new faces and I would be only too pleased to show you round our facilities which are on Chapel Street in the centre of Syston so please don’t hesitate to give me a ring. I hope you all have a Joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year. Sally Portsmouth (Chair) 0116 260 6095.
