Syston Ladies Bowls Club Presentation Luncheon
On Wednesday 9th November the Syston Ladies bowls club met for their annual luncheon when the lady president this year Mrs Biddles presented her chosen charity, Syston Volunteer Centre, with a cheque for £1,050. This had been raised throughout the year and is an amazing amount for a very well used but not so well funded organisation. The Volunteer Centre is based at 18 School Street, here in Syston and offers help and support for elderly or disabled in the community. They are open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 6.00pm and they offer Minibus drivers and social car drivers to transport to appointments. As well as visits, a gardening and handyman service and much more. Works are due to take place in Cossington, by Leicestershire County Council on Platts Lane, which will entail the closure of that length of road whilst Carriageway and Kerbing works are in progress. During the closure, all through-bound traffic will be diverted via Syston Road, Main Street and Platts Lane as far as the works It is anticipated that works will commence on 06/ 02 / 2012 and last for 5 weeks. The Association has an evening meeting on Tuesday 14th February at Highpoint Conference Centre, 165 Glenfield Road, Leicester, LE3 6DP at 7.30pm. Stuart Crow, NT Operations Manager, will present an illustrated talk entitled “Woolsthorpe Manor – the birthplace of Isaac Newton” On Wednesday 22th February our afternoon meeting will be held at St Guthlac’s Memorial Hall, Holbrook Road, Leicester, LE2 3LF at 2.30pm when Ned Newitt will talk about The Leicester Slums.
