NEW BARKBY WI

Shirley Franklin, President of New Barkby WI, welcomed everyone to the April meeting. The speaker for the evening was Jayne Good, who demonstrated Wet on Wet oil painting. From a blank canvas, which was first painted over in white, Jayne proceeded to build up a picture beginning with a sky of blue, with some crimson and black painted in too. By using a very large paint brush and palette knife, she was then able to change outlines and make the sky form the backdrop for mountains. These then surrounded a lake with trees and reflections by the bank side. Members were informed that they could all manage to follow instructions and paint a picture. This form of art was based on work by an American artist and is shown on TV as ‘The Joy of Painting’. Jayne also runs workshops, so some members may be interested to have a go. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs A Montague and the raffle was won by Mrs J Bishop. The competition prize for an item beginning with ‘R’ was won by Mrs M Gamble with a model of a rat. The tea hostesses were Mrs A Smith and Mrs J Smith. Our next meeting, entitled Resolutions, will be on Wednesday 4th May at 7.30pm in Syston Community Centre. All visitors are welcome to attend.
