Plus: Village gardens open, art exhibition in church, displays, plant and other stalls, tombola, raffle, quiz, refreshments, Pimm’s tent, hot dogs, children’s activity and much more. 10.00am to 4.00pm Following on from the success of last year's event, Pick's Organic Farm at King Street, Hamilton Grounds, Barkby Thorpe will be holding another Farm Open Day to help raise funds for Soar Valley Music Centre, a music charity based in Leicester. There will be live music from students and staff of the Music Centre, craft stalls, cream teas, barbecue, games, a bouncy castle, animals and lots more to entertain the whole family. New Zealand Lane Charity Plant Sale. Our Spring plant sale will this year be held on Sunday 13th May from 10.00am until 4.00pm. LOROS Cake Bake-Off LOROS Cake Bake-Off

Office staff at local hospice are to show culinary skills in time for special garden reveal. Staff at the Leicestershire & Rutland Hospice have challenged one another to demonstrate their cooking skills by arranging the LOROS Cake Bake-Off on 18th May. Tony Edwards and Ken Bools have challenged all LOROS staff members and volunteers at the Hospice on Groby Road to enter their culinary creations in two categories small or large cakes. The categories will be judged by two local professional chefs with the overall winner of the Best Cake of the Day receiving a three course meal, with wine, for two people donated by Entropy Restaurant on Hinckley Road, Leicester. All cakes entered will then be sold to visitors at the “Colour of Ribbons” event being held at the Hospice on Sunday 20th May. Visitors will have the chance to see the newly installedGarden ofLight and Reflection and, in exchange for a donation, will be able to tie a coloured ribbon onto a designated area of the garden in memory of a family member, friend or colleague. Ribbons will be available in different colours to suit the person being remembered and there will be three time allocations available on the day; 10.30am,12 noon and 1.30pm. Prior arrangements an a booking form is available on request from the hospice. Please note that limited parking will be available at the Hospice and access to the Chapel/Prayer Room will also be possible. All funds raised from both events will be for the benefit of LOROS Hospice,a local charity providing free palliative care to over 2,500 terminally-ill patients and their families every year.
