As we all know the world has been turned upside down and not the same in the current circumstances of COVID-19. Normal Face to Face scouting had to stop back in March to comply with government guidelines to help combat the virus. But this has not stopped the members of Syston Scout Group to continue scouting!
In Syston, and all over the country, Scouting has continued at home but online using all of today’s modern technology.
Members of Syston have been taking part in events such as a virtual St Georges Camp at home which saw Beavers, Cubs and Scouts celebrate St Georges day.
This saw the Young People building an indoor den, pitching a tent or just sleep under the dining table! The Young people started Friday evening with flag break and a germ activity to tie in with the current situation. Saturday saw them all renewing their Scout promise, then on to complete additional activities including making animals out of fruit ready for our morning break.
There was also a virtual camp fire with sausages on a fire or BBQ. Sunday was started with the district mascot ‘Charlie Charnwood’ running a Joe Wicks style morning stretch! Then Rev Wendy from All Saints Church Loughborough joined and a Scout Own service to think about all the things happening in the world.
There were over 500 young people that joined in across the district organised by Charnwood District Scouts for the weekend and some very happy smiling faces.
Other events included quiz nights, creating a virtual drum display, necker flip challenge, band awards evening and Lego Building Challenges plus achieving 100’s of badges at home such as Animal Friend, Book Reader, Collectors, Cyclist, Photographer, Gardener, Artist, astronomer, Chef, DIY and lots more. Our Virtual Drum Display, Necker Flip Challenge and our Band Awards Evening can all be found on our website – systonscouts.org.uk.
All these events and activities have kept the young people busy and continuing the great fun and help build skills for life for these young people which hopefully will be able to start back within the next few months.
Sound like something you would like to be a part of? Even Virtually?
