Rotary Club of the Wreake Valley
In the Autumn of 2022 an approach was made to Queniborough Primary School by our Club President Fiona Pimm to see if there were any ways in which we could develop a supportive relationship with the school and our Rotary Club. Initial discussions identified a need for the school to replace a number of rather tired and worn out children’s dictionaries.
The Rotary Organisation has just such a scheme that can provide suitable dictionaries to schools in the UK and in many other countries around the world.
It was agreed that we would supply enough dictionaries for one suitably aged year group and present them to the school at the end of this school year.
We were also made aware of the school’s wish to tidy up and refurbish a small area of the playground in order to provide a ‘Peace Garden’ and Rotary agreed to help both financially and by ‘rolling up our sleeves’ to refurbish this small, rather sad and neglected area.
With the help of the project leader, (teacher Mrs Watson), other school staff, children and parents we all worked together to produce a stunning result incorporating the thoughts and design ideas of the children with the School’s rainbow theme and seven statements of expected behaviour towards each other (one for each colour of the rainbow,) at its heart. The last day of the school Summer term was chosen for the presentation of the dictionaries followed by the official opening of the Peace Garden in front of the whole assembled school and in glorious sunshine.
A great result for everyone involved.
We look forward to a continuing close partnership with Queniborough Primary School in the future.
