New Barkby WI
President, Shirley Franklin, welcomed members of New Barkby W.I. to the November meeting, a most opportune time to celebrate the institutes ‘Centenary’ event. Jerusalem was sung.
There have been cards of congratulations received from former member these were on display, plus photographs and memorable of past events.
After the ordinary meeting, members enjoyed delicious slices of cake, made by committee member, Joy Goulden.
Then, after the social time, the meeting became the Annual Meeting. There were reports of the past year’s events, from Secretary Angela, and President Shirley, who has decided to stand down in her role, but will become Vice-President, as Dawn Haynes becomes the new President, following an election, the committee remains the same.
The highlight of the evening was the ‘sudden appearance’ of a hoop covered in knitting, with a female figure (knitted) resting on the side of the hoop, created by the mysterious ‘Syston Knitting Banxy’.
Hopefully, this may be displayed at future meetings.
Later this month, members will be enjoying a celebratory meal at the Queen Victoria public house’s restaurant to acknowledge the Institutes’ centenary.
The raffle prize was won by Dawn Haynes with a box of celebrations.
Our next two meetings will be held on Wednesday 3rd December with A Christmas Social Evening.
Then on Wednesday 7th January 2026 with ‘Be Happy With Your Life’, Speaker will be Janet Harrison.
All visitors welcome to attend at Syston Community Centre, 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of the month.
