DESCRIPTION:Australia’s Most Famous Musical Instrument – The Didgeridoo \n Tuesday 8th February 2022\, 2.30 pm \nChristchurch Clarendon Park\, 105a Clarendon Park Road\, Leicester LE2 3AH \n The origins of the didgeridoo (didjeridu) belong to a specific Australian aboriginal (First Nations people) cultural bloc from the Northern Territory of Australia – Arnhem land. The correct ‘Yolngu’ or Australian aboriginal name for the didgeridoo is ‘Yidaki’\, and the instrument is reckoned to have been around for 2000 years. This is a fascinating instrument\, both in terms of the actual playing and its cultural origins. Iain Tiddy will talk about the history and origin of the instrument\, and explain exactly what a didgeridoo is and how it is made\, both traditionally and by contemporary makers. \n Iain Tiddy was born and brought up in Peterborough\, but studied for a degree in Leicester and then spent around 4 years in the NHS as a Medical Laboratory Scientist\, in Chemical Pathology\, but then changed career and taught Science and Biology to A level\, at Guthlaxton College in Wigston for 32 years until he retired in 2016.
