SUMMARY:Syston Library Refurbishment
DESCRIPTION:The library will close at 3pm on Saturday 31st March and will reopen at 8am on Monday 16th April. The closure is to enable us to undertake the following work: \n\nInstallation of a new self-service kiosk to replace the existing out of date one\nInstallation of an upgraded version of Library Plus\, a system which enables customers to gain access to the library whilst it is unstaffed\n\nSyston was the pilot for Library Plus which is now being rolled out across the county\, but it still requires an upgrade to the existing system.  Staff will be putting up a notice to alert customers to the closure and will be contacting local groups who use the library.  \nMore information can be found on the Syston Library page on Leicester County Councils website and their social media feeds over the coming weeks.

SUMMARY:Police Chiefs go shopping for information
DESCRIPTION:Police and Crime Commissioner Lord Willy Bach and Chief Constable Simon Cole have added a new element to the shopping list when they join forces to go on the hunt for local opinion at a ‘What Matters To You’ event. \nMembers of public will have the opportunity to meet the pair and members of the local policing team. They will be invited to share their experiences with those setting policing priorities and give their views on crime and public safety. \nThe event is being held at Asda in Thurmaston between 12.30-2.30pm on Tuesday 27 March. \nPublic feedback is vital to both the PCC and the Chief Constable as they seek to meet the policing needs and expectations of different communities and helps to influence where resources are allocated. \nWilly Bach said: “These are events enable a grass roots conversation between the public\, the Chief and I. They are always well-attended and is a great opportunity for a real two-way conversation. We all learn something. \n“Simon and I will be around throughout the afternoon to chat to people and talk about local concerns. It’s a really great chance for us to hear what really matters to people and what needs to be done to help. If you are in the area please\, pay us a visit!” \nAsda is located in Barkby Thorpe Lane\, Thurmaston\, LE4 8GN.

SUMMARY:Strategic growth plan exhibition
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition with information about a plan setting out how Leicester and Leicestershire will grow in the future is at a number of locations in Charnwood.\nThe display is about a draft Strategic Growth Plan which is being developed by a partnership formed by Leicester City and Leicestershire County councils\, the seven local borough and district authorities and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP).\nPeople are being urged to have their say on the growth plan during a consultation which runs until 5th April 2018. SUMMARY:Birthday Celebrations For Syston Eyecare
DESCRIPTION:We\, as a family based dedicated team of local Independent Opticians\, are celebrating our 20th anniversary providing eyecare needs in the community.\nWhy You Don’t Need To Look Any Further\nAt Syston Eyecare we appreciate that you may feel you have an abundance of choice in choosing the right Opticians. For this reason we wanted to explain why we believe our Independent practice is the right choice for the whole family and community.\nA Little Background First\nWe began working for the big multiples where\, to us\, the service felt impersonal\, rushed and target led. Consequently\, as a result of wanting to provide a more personalised service without the constraints of commercialised selling of spectacles\, we decided to open our own practices where we were able to provide the quality of eye care that we felt was more appropriate to our ethos.\nAs a result of providing an honest\, caring\, personal service alongside traditional values\, our practices have grown from strength to strength and we help look after the eyecare needs of 21\,000 patients and even have three generations of the same family visiting us !!\nOur Commitment To You\nWe have always believed that you are the most important person in our practice and integral to our business and that is why our mission has always been to exceed your expectations at every level.\nWe pride ourselves on treating each patient as an individual and take the extra time with them to find out more about them and what they need. We like to make it both an effortless and enjoyable experience.\nVision Of Value\nA myth exists that Independent practices are more expensive but with us you will find that we offer quality\, choice and style at affordable prices that is always value for money. \nPut us to the test and come in for our ‘Best Price Promise’ guarantee. \nWe take pride in our status as an Independent practice because to us it means that we are able to offer you a caring professional service matched by our ability to source quality products and services most suited to your needs. \nRather than spending vast amounts on advertising and promotion to generate a flow of new patients\, we prefer to rely on satisfied patients who return time and time again recommending family and friends who in turn also become loyal patients.\nThrough this\, we have built a solid presence within the community solely through word of mouth and recommendations.\nSee The Difference\nAs a family orientated business\, work colleagues have become our extended family with most having been with us since the beginning.\nOur work ethos has always been to treat our staff as we would want to be treated ourselves and because of these family values we do not open on Sunday as we feel it important for our staff to have time to spend with their families. \nIt is great to see whole families coming for their eye care every day of the week and it is a pleasure to be working in such a happy and cheerful work environment.\nCome And Take A Closer Look\nThe atmosphere at our practices is always very open and welcoming. Our longest serving members of the team have built something special between themselves and our patients who often pop in just to say ‘Hello’ and have a natter. \nOptics has changed significantly over the years and eyecare is even more important now than before. But\, as people\, our work ethics and how we look after and educate those in our community still remains unchanged.\nCome and see the difference for yourselves !!

SUMMARY:Seven Ages of Retirement Planning
DESCRIPTION:Research provides insight into the different ages at which people move from one financial phase to another.\nThe division of human life into a series of ages appears to have been a common theme among writers and philosophers through the ages. Indeed\, the idea is famously explored in a monologue from Shakespeare’s As You Like It\, which compares the world to a stage and catalogues the seven stages of a man’s life.\nWhilst society has advanced somewhat since those words were first put to paper\, a similar division can be used to look at the milestones at which people today start to move from one financial ‘age’ to the other.\nThe insurer\, Aviva\, asked over-50s who had been proactive in saving for retirement to recall when they started doing so (Aviva Real Retirement Report\, 2017. Data from 3\,327 UK adults aged 50 and over\, of whom 1\,829 are still working). From this it constructed the seven ages of retirement planning.\nStarting Out\nJust over a quarter of those questioned said they started saving into a pension in their 20s\, but only 5% had thought about how much money they would need for this later stage in their lives. \nAside from the financial barriers they face\, young adults can often feel disconnected from the individuals they will be in the future. To those estranged from their future selves\, saving for retirement is like a choice between spending money today or giving it to a stranger years from now.\nGetting Serious\nIt is only when the clock starts ticking that people realise the effect that delaying will have on their retirement plans. As such\, many use their thirties and forties to map out their financial future. Although those surveyed typically started saving into a private pension when they were 33\, most said they only started taking pension saving seriously six years later; some 15 years after they typically began their careers.\nUnderstandably\, those in their 30s often postpone pension saving due to a variety of competing financial pressures. But those who delay for an extended stretch of time will find it much harder to meet their retirement aspirations. For instance\, someone who makes a gross contribution of £150 a month from the age of 25 can expect an annual pension income of £7\,630 at 65. If they start saving the same amount from 40\, they can expect to receive less than half this – £3\,570 (www.legalandgeneral.com\, accessed 24 Jan 2018.).\nThe High-pressure Years\nMidlife is likely to bring about a sense that it’s now or never. Older workers in the survey generally reached their mid-40s before calculating how much money they would need in retirement and therefore how much they would need to save\, before ramping up their savings from the age of 47.\nEarnings often peak around this time\, giving people an opportunity to take advantage of greater financial resources at their disposal\, and make greater strides towards bringing retirement aspirations to fruition.\nYet\, pre-retirement doesn’t always bring a greater appreciation of practical considerations. While there is a clear motivation among many workers to save more while their income is at its highest\, Aviva has found that few are actually channeling those savings directly into their pensions.\nOnly 12% of over-50s say they have increased\, or would increase\, their pension contributions to an existing workplace pension scheme. A fifth say that they have made – or intend to make – a big one-off purchase\, such as a new car or kitchen\, while their income is at its highest.\nPensions Postponed\nThe research also reveals that many older workers are unable to use their peak earning years to add to their retirement savings. Coping with the cost of living is preventing some from adding to their pots\, while others are restricted by financially dependent relatives and lingering mortgage debt.\nInterestingly\, only 13% say they have or would seek professional advice from a financial adviser\, which may be a reason why so few are concentrating on adding to their pension pots despite being in such a crucial earnings period.  \nClearly\, those who plan ahead and take financial advice are more likely to take retirement planning seriously at a younger age. They are also more likely look at retirement with greater optimism.
