SUMMARY:Declan’s Diary
DESCRIPTION:It has been two years\, almost to the day\, that I last sat by Declan’s bedside writing for Syston Town News. Unfortunately\, I am having to do it again after Declan was admitted into hospital with a chest infection a week after celebrating his nineteenth birthday. \nCurrently\, it hasn’t developed into pneumonia and we’re praying that it won’t. As Declan is now an adult he is being treated at Glenfield hospital as they specialise in cardiology and respiratory for adults. They have been wonderful\, taking time to get to know Declan and allowing me to be with him both day and night to support him physically and emotionally. I had been concerned that as Declan is now classed as an adult that I would be asked to abide by ward visiting hours; thankfully they fully appreciate the twenty-four-hour specialised care that Declan needs and I am allowed to stay with him.  \nMoving Declan overnight is a military operation; ensuring his shoulder doesn’t dislocate as you roll him\, that you don’t accidentally disconnect his ventilator and most importantly that he is not put into a position that hinders the oxygen flow into his fragile lungs. He can need moving as often as every twenty minutes so the most mundane tasks for me can become challenging\, and writing this is no different after having barely slept in four nights. \nThankfully it is felt that we have caught the infection early and this should be a relatively short hospital stay.\nEleven years ago\, just a few months after Declan was diagnosed\, I met a wonderful man\, only a couple of years younger than myself with a smile that could light up a room and a diagnosis the same as Declan’s. David quickly became our inspiration\, showing me that Duchennes doesn’t have to destroy life or a smile. Only living in Anstey\, David and his family became good friends of ours\, sharing tips and celebrating birthdays. David drove to Declans eighteenth birthday party last year looking very dapper\, flashing his hazard lights on the dance floor\, still smiling\, still enjoying life\, still having hope. Unfortunately on Monday 9th October this smile and hope was taken as his heart beat for the final time. Heaven received an unexpected angel leaving a river of tears for David’s family and friends. ‘Heartbroken’ is a phrase used quite flippantly in life and especially on social media. To lose a child whatever the age is real\, intense\, raw heartbreak. \nI remember losing a good friend at twenty-one. As her coffin disappeared behind the curtain at the crematorium I heard a noise that I will never forget – her mum let out a scream and it still shudders through me. That was the first time I heard the noise that comes from heartbreak\, a noise that comes so deep from your heart\, that is uncontrollable and so full of pain\, fear and despair. I could feel the heartbreak when David’s sister gave me the awful news about her big brother. \nI would like to dedicate this month’s Declans Diary to David Mayes\, a friend\, an inspiration and all round round top guy who will be truly missed\, but never\, ever forgotten.\nAlex

SUMMARY:Horoscope - November 2017
DESCRIPTION:ARIES March 20 – April 19\nLook out for a wonderfully exciting new and special friend this month\, who may well suggest a few travel adventures and certainly some way of raising cash by pairing up! We all need friends like that and you’re not likely to ignore the opportunities that they bring your way. Meanwhile\, your love life is spicing up with romance and passions galore.\nTAURUS April 20 – May 20\nYour partner is very busy with work commitments even though a lot of this is actually quite enjoyable! Still\, they may have to travel with their career and\, as the month goes on\, you may have to get used to your own company after initial closeness and intimacies. Never mind; the chances will come round again! You have obligations to others to fulfil.\nGEMINI May 21 – June 20\nYour life is relatively ‘quiet’ and a partner is frantically busy with work and other commitments and responsibilities that\, frankly\, leave you standing still! Yes\, times are a little lonely yet try not to allow this to dishearten you. You sensibly catch up with hobbies and pastimes that also help to distract you. An admirer steps forward and work goes well.\nCANCER June 21 – July 21\nYou may decide to be amused in the face of a partner’s continuing bossy and dictatorial attitude as regards one or two issues! Yes\, it is sometimes fun and you will also appreciate just what they’re trying to say. They’re lucky to have an understanding partner in you. Meanwhile\, you catch up with projects at home and friends invite you out.\nLEO July 22 – August 22\nLife is pretty hectic and you won’t know which way to turn first! It’s a good job that you have high energy and are enjoying good health at the moment\, so that you are able to cope. You also get to spend special time at home\, relaxing with loved ones and special friends. Yes\, you may even throw a party or ‘talk business’; either way\, you enjoy it all.\nVIRGO August 23 – Sept 22\nYou’re spending your well-earned cash quite quickly this month\, especially being as there are a few practical demands. So it’s a good job that there’s quite a lot of it around! Yes\, seems you’ve been saving your money ‘for a rainy day’ and that forward planning pays dividends. Current aspects seem to point to a holiday or good rest\, to re-charge batteries.\nLIBRA Sept 23 – Oct 22\nYour high energy\, enthusiasm and determination see quite a few practical tasks get completed. You’re in a mood to plan ahead\, with your happiness firmly in mind! Your cash reserves are good and you’re likely to raise even more cash being as the current trends are so beneficial. Talks about finances abound and this becomes public knowledge.\nSCORPIO Oct 23 – Nov 21\nExciting plans may be temporary or even impossible! Still\, you’re enjoying making them anyway and this uplifts your spirits. You’re in a romantic and passionate mood and this goes a long way to help relax you and unwind. Your natural good mood\, warmth and highly sociable nature could well attract a great business opportunity. You need to talk.\nSAGITTARIUS Nov 22 – Dec 20\nYou continue to work hard and you’ve been doing this for a good couple of years now! Surely the phase will end soon? Happily\, you get to talk about this to others this month and start to make wonderful new plans\, so that life will promise to improve as well as the social ‘side’. Keen fellow members of a community group or charity spur you on.\nCAPRICORN Dec 21 – Jan 19\nLife is certainly demanding and it’s difficult for you to plan ahead positively whilst you have commitments and responsibilities that are ‘taking it out of you’ at the moment. Slowly\, you come out of your shell this month and start to open up to others! This is necessary if you are ever to sort things out. You work hard but others are determined that you enjoy life.\nAQUARIUS Jan 20 – Feb 17\nFinancially\, you may be confused or overwhelmed! Try to reassure yourself that you’re simply learning and can outperform in the future but\, for now\, just steer the boat as best you can; you’re doing great. Trust your amazing intellect to get you through life and everything will work out just fine. You have massive doubts but are applying yourself.\nPISCES Feb 18 – March 19\nYour keen interest in emotions continues to thrive even though you’re still in a quieter phase. You also continue to try to navigate your way through interesting financial issues\, which look rather good long-term nevertheless! Your wonderful state of mind sees you gaining the upper hand\, with some definite popularity too. Communication is also a key!
