A Special Lunch in aid of Rainbows Hospice

At the beginning of this year Felicity Austin asked her friends if they would help her to organise a fund raising lunch in aid of Rainbows hospice, to commemorate a special anniversary. The group decided that they would provide nearly all the food themselves and also hold a raffle. The ‘flower’ team at the church offered to help by providing table decorations and Felicity asked four men (including her husband and brother in law) if they would be the ‘washer uppers’. Tickets were organised and the event was advertised through this paper and posters around the town. They soon sold out which was most encouraging.
And so on a miserable, grey, rainy Friday in April fifty ladies attended the special lunch in St Peter and St Paul’s church hall. From the moment they entered the hall, the atmosphere was friendly and wonderfully warm. The buffet lunch looked and tasted great, raffle tickets were sold and the wine and conversation flowed. After lunch while the men worked incredibly hard in the kitchen there was a chance to look at the display of garments (owned by Felicity), that were made in Leicester factories such as Corah’s and Wolsey in the past.
So thank you very much to all who supported the lunch in any way at all. The result of this event (apart from fifty happy customers) and some rather tired men, was an amazing £854 for the hospice.
